All too often a professional resume is ruined by an unprofessional email address.
We all know that an address like SKIBUM is bound to make an employer think twice about hiring you. But you may not realize the effect your email address is having if one of the following problems occurs:
- The font you use doesn’t distinguish between one and the letter el or zero and a letter oh. Recruiters and hiring managers should not have to guess whether your email goes to JOHNBROWNEL or JOHNBROWNE1.
- Your email address doesn’t use your full name. Recently, I had a client whose email address consisted of a random series of numbers. The random numbers did nothing to reinforce a company’s memory of her name.
- The email address has an underscore that doesn’t show up when the address is underlined. If you must separate words in your email address, use a period or dash instead.
- Your email goes to your current company. Your current company is probably monitoring your email; do you want them to know you are job hunting? And do you want your future company to know you waste company time on your personal job hunt?
Email addresses are free. Having professional email account for your job hunt and another for your personal email helps you to avoid sending the wrong email to the wrong person. At Robin’s Resumes®, we pay attention to details like the email address. Contact us today.
